At Abbeywood House, we offer warm, personal residential care in a smaller home. With just 32 residents the team gets to know each person well, and build trust and familiarity – from their routines, preferences and personality to the little details that deliver excellent care.
Care and Support
We support older people who are finding that care at home is no longer enough, including those with frailty, reduced mobility or early-stage dementia. Our stable team and strong staffing levels help us provide attentive, consistent care throughout the day and night.
We are part of the Rose Care Group, one of the highest-rated care groups on carehome.co.uk and twice winner of Mid-Sized Care Home Group of the Year. This gives us access to wider care expertise, meaning as needs change, our care can adapt, helping residents remain settled and supported over time.
Rooms and Living Spaces
Our bedrooms are large, bright and en-suite. We are investing in all bedrooms and communal spaces to bring them up to our high Rose Care Group standard, with redesigned rooms, refreshed lounges, feature wallpaper, new furnishings, cinema -style televisions and improved activity spaces.
Activities and Lifestyle
We offer activities throughout the day, seven days a week, including social events, entertainers, group activities, seasonal celebrations and one-to-one time.
Life at Abbeywood is about companionship, routine, conversation and enjoyment - with each resident encouraged to take part in the way that suits them best.
Food and Dining
Food is an important part of life at Abbeywood. We offer a wide range of daily choices, using quality local ingredients wherever possible.
Residents can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, plus a light bites menu for snacks and smaller meals. Even breakfast is made into a social occasion, while Tasty Tuesdays and Fun Fridays bring flavours and dishes from around the world to sample.

Hello, I’m Maxine. I’m a mum of two boys and also a nan to a lovely grandson. I was born and bred in Devon, but have been fortunate enough to have lived abroad, including the Caribbean!
I qualified as an early year’s teacher when my children were young, and then went on to become an estate manager for a wonderful family who I stayed with for 15 years. It was this experience which then led me to realise that I wanted to help and support others, so I decided to work in the care profession and have never looked back.
My career history involves supporting adults with mental health and learning difficulties, and through completing my NVQs all the way up to level 5, I have now been a Registered Care home Manager for 9 years.
I’ve been with Abbeywood House for over 2 years, and I really believe this is where I belong. It’s a lovely care home that is, and has been, working hard to ensure the residents that we support live their best lives, in a caring environment with qualified well-educated staff.
We pride ourselves on being warm, friendly and a home away from home, encouraging and supporting families to visit and join in with our daily activities, be that dancing to the bands, joining in with the quizzes taking part in baking home cooked cakes, or sitting with loved ones and making friends with other visitors and residents.

With 32 bedrooms, the majority of which are en-suite, and a range of thoughtfully designed communal spaces, our home offers comfort, privacy, and the opportunity to connect with others.
Each bedroom is carefully decorated in calming tones and fully furnished to provide a peaceful, private space where residents can relax and unwind. We encourage everyone to personalise their rooms with photos, mementos, and favourite pieces to make it truly feel like their own.

Our accommodation extends far beyond the bedroom.
